The tectonic plates are shifting beneath local authorities in Cumbria. As the Government considers whether to scrap our existing two-tier system – one county council and six district councils – and replace it with a single unitary authority, Cumbria County Council continues to vigorously champion this option. It believes this would save over £22m a year, cut red tape, streamline planning and economic regeneration, assist businesses, improve services, boost grassroots democracy and help to attract more investment.
